The following trials are open to patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent brain metastases:

Newly Diagnosed Brain Metastasis

Phase III study of Radiation + Radiosurgical boost vs Radiation Therapy Alone Newly Diagnosed Brain Metastasis (RTOG 9508)

Eligibility: Newly diagnosed brain metastasis

Protocol: Patients will be randomized between having standard radiation therapy followed by a radiosurgical boost or standard radiation therapy alone with radiosurgery deferred until recurrence.

Newly Diagnosed Brain Metastasis

Phase II study of RSR-13 plus Radiation Therapy in Newly Diagnosed Brain Metastasis

Eligibility: Newly diagnosed brain metastasis

Protocol: All patients will undergo radiation therapy in combination with infusions of RSR-13 (an oxygen carrying substance believed to enhance the effect of radiation therapy on brain tumors) on each day of treatment.

Recurrent Brain Metastasis

Phase II dose study of Thalidomide in recurrent brain metastasis

Eligibility: Recurrent brain metastases following completion of radiation therapy. Not a candidate for gross total tumor resection or for radiosurgery. No concurrent chemotherapy (except hormonal therapy for breast cancer).

Protocol: Thalidomide is administered daily until tumor recurrence or chemotherapy is started.
